IFISA questions
What is the ISA allowance?
The ISA allowance is the maximum amount you can invest across all types of ISAs in any one tax year. You can put your whole allowance into a particular type of ISA or you can split it between the different types of ISAs: Cash, Stocks & Shares, Lifetime and Innovative Finance.
The ISA allowance for the 2025/26 tax year is £20,000.
Can I have more than one ISA?
Yes, you can have an Innovative Finance ISA as well as a Cash, Stocks & Shares and Lifetime ISA. You must however stay within the total annual ISA allowance of £20,000
Can I transfer my Cash ISA or Stocks and Shares ISA to an Innovative Finance ISA?
Yes, you can transfer other types of ISAs to an
Innovative Finance ISA provided you are transferring cash and not investments.
If you hold a Stocks & Shares ISA and you wish to transfer it, your current
provider will sell any investments you hold and transfer the cash proceeds.
You may transfer a combination of all or part of
current and/or previous years' subscriptions, subject to the conditions of your
old ISA manager.
Some ISA providers may not offer a partial transfer and there may be charges or
costs, such as manager’s charges or lost interest so you should enquire with
your current ISA manager.
Can I have more than one Innovative Finance ISA?
Yes you can. As of 6 April 2024 the new HMRC rules mean you are allowed to open and subscribe to any number of IF ISAs in the same tax year. And as before, your IFISAs may
hold more than one investment.
Ethex and Triodos partnership announcement
Is Ethex regulated?
Ethex is a not-for-profit organisation, set up as a company limited by guarantee. They are not required to be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in so far as they provide information on or arrange deals in investments. This is because they are an Enterprise Scheme, which is exempt from regulation in arranging financial deals when not for pecuniary gain, as specified in the Financial Service and Markets Act 2000 (Exemption) Order 2001 paragraph 40.
Why is Triodos Crowdfunding moving to Ethex?
Ethex and Triodos have been pioneers of direct impact investing for decades. This new partnership will combine strengths and investor communities, enabling more capital to flow to projects that deliver benefits for people and planet. Both Ethex and Triodos will remain independent in sourcing investment opportunities and the Triodos Corporate Finance team will continue to originate and structure new investments which will be available to you via Ethex. With both Triodos and Ethex having a strong track record of raising over £330 million in finance for over 300 impactful projects, the goal is to improve your choice of offers and experience on one platform. Together, we’re making it easier for you to invest with purpose.
Will my IFISA transfer automatically?
Yes! Your Innovative Finance ISA (IFISA) will move to the Ethex platform, ShareIn Ltd will be your new ISA Manager and your tax-free status will remain intact.
Will my login details for Triodos Crowdfunding work with Ethex?
No. Ethex will send you an email with instructions on how to access your Ethex account. Use the instructions sent to you via email, or use your existing Ethex account if you already have one. Your Triodos Crowdfunding login details will no longer work after the migration.
What if I already have an Ethex account?
If the details we hold at Triodos match the information in your existing Ethex account, we’ll link the two together. Ethex will then email you with instructions to confirm the match. If your details differ between the two accounts, you may be set up with a new Ethex account. To prevent this, you can update your email in your Triodos account area before the transfer, to ensure they match. If you experience any issues during or after the transfer process, please contact Triodos or Ethex customer support.
Who do I contact if I have questions?
For questions about: Your existing Triodos account or the transfer: Contact Triodos support at 0330 3550 355. Ethex platform or login issues: Contact Ethex support at help@ethex.org.uk.
I don’t want ShareIn to be my ISA Manager, can I opt out?
No, we will be transferring all IFISA’s to Ethex and will no longer be an IFISA Manager. Ethex use ShareIn to facilitate payments to and from investors and, where an investor chooses to invest with Ethex via an ISA, ShareIn administers the IFISA account. If you don't want us to transfer your IFISA to Ethex, you can choose to transfer your IFISA to another provider. However, please note that, as per the Innovative Finance ISA Terms and Conditions, Innovative Finance ISAs can only be transferred to another provider if they only hold cash and not any investments. We'll need to receive your transfer instructions from your new provider before 18 August 2026 to allow enough time to process your request. If you choose to opt out of the transfer to Ethex and we do not receive your transfer request in time, you will lose your ISA status.

What happens to my existing investments?
Any investments you hold will remain the same. After transfer your investments will be visible on your Ethex account. Any payments due to you (interest payments, capital repayments) will be made in the usual way to your Ethex wallet. Please note that Triodos Impact Fund investments will remain with Triodos. The transfer to Ethex applies exclusively to crowdfunding investments and IFISAs.
I don't want to transfer my investments to Ethex, can I opt out?
No, Triodos will be transferring all crowdfunding investments and IFISAs to Ethex and will no longer be offering a crowdfunding service. We believe this collaboration will bring together the strength of both organisations, offering you an even broader range of values-aligned investment opportunities in one place.
Will I face any extra risk as a result of this transfer?
Your investments remain the same and any cash you hold in your wallet will continue to be held in a client money account. However, the services around those investments will now be provided by Ethex and ShareIn instead of Triodos. Our assessment is that there is no additional risk to you in this change of service provider.
